ICM Vertical Fall arrest system

Upgrade your system to the new standard

The new ICM Vertical fall arrest system meets the stricter requirements of the EN 353-1:2014 standard. However, if you already have the previous EN 353-1:2002 version, you can continue to use it for a limited period of time or you can use an upgrade kit and in this way meet the new requirements without having to replace the whole system.

The ICM Vertical fall arrest system is designed for the wind industry, among others, to secure up to three users simultaneously on fixed ladders and masts. For over a decade, the system has become a staple for many of our clients when it comes to protecting workers at heights. The system consists of a guided type fall arrester following the user’s movements along a wire under tension. In case of a fall, the fall arrester automatically locks on the wire rope and may open and extend the shock absorber depending on the amount of force applied.

EN 353-1:2002

The previous vertical fall arrest system is still possible to use

The EN 353-1:2002-compliant version of the Vertical fall arrest system has been substituted by an EN 353-1:2014-approved system. However, ICM continues to maintain and sell spare parts for the older system, which may remain in service as long as it passes pre-use, bi-annual and annual inspections. Notice that the older version is only compatible with the old Cabloc traveler (item number 6804500).

EN 353-1:2014

Updated and improved Claw traveler

With stricter requirements for your fall arrest equipment, the new EN 353-1:2014 standard increases safety when working at heights. According to the new standard, all travelers must be designed in a way that makes it impossible to install them upside down or accidentally remove them. The new Claw traveler complies to this featuring clear directional markings for fast and correct installation. The new standard also mandates that the traveler must be able to pass any cable guides without any manual intervention and without having to be removed. Furthermore, the Claw traveler allows the user to quickly confirm whether the correct cable tension is present, and with the new standard, the load requirement for the bottom anchor has been increased from 2 kN to 5 kN. The improved Claw traveler (item number 6804505) is only compatible with the newest system.

Upgrade your previous ICM Vertical System

As an owner of the EN 353-1:2002-compliant version, you can choose to upgrade your system to the newest standard with an upgrade kit (item number 6804509). The kit includes a step-by-step guide on how to safely upgrade your system. Once the upgrade has completed, you can no longer use the old Cabloc traveler, only the new Claw traveler (item number 6804505).
